As an educator, Dr. Alonso has created psychology-training programs throughout the Philadelphia metro area. He pioneered a national program of psychopharmacological training for psychologists. He has served on the faculties of Chestnut Hill College and the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis.

                   An author and speaker, Dr. Alonso has published numerous articles on business and psychology. He has served as a contributing writer and editor to two Rodale Inc. magazines, Men’s Health and Best Life, where he wrote the popular column, “Ask the Head Coach.” He also wrote a column, “Corporate Shrink” for the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal. Alonso is the author of the book, “Family Business Survival: Six Key Tasks Required for a Successful Family Business.”

                  Over the past several years Dr. Alonso has developed a passion for the game of poker, particularly Texas No Limit Hold’em. An avid chess player, he considers Hold’em to be ten times more complicated than chess.

                  A serious student of the game, Alonso has read dozens of books and hundreds of articles on poker strategy. He has received coaching from several top, well known players. He does employ his psychological training and experience when he plays or studies poker daily. He has combined his expertise in human behavior with his poker knowledge to develop the theory of psychological poker leaks. This concept is based on the fact that in poker, as well as in life, best decisions are generated by self-knowledge, the management of our emotions, and the ability to think about our thinking.                   Dr. Alonso graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA from Boston College. He received his MA and PhD in psychology from Adelphi University. Mario and his wife Margaret Alonso, MA, VMD, a veterinarian, are the parents of two grown sons and grandparents of two grandchildren. They live and work in eastern Pennsylvania.
